Most of what I’ve come across on the Internet suggests a course in Public Relations, but states that no particular degree is required. What is the difference between a course and a degree? And would the type of degree I take affect what types of courses I could take?

I am majoring in Mass Communications with an emphasis in public relations, and there are several approaches you can take to becoming a PR specialist. Although no particular degree is required, most PR specialists have degrees in Public Relations, Mass Communications, Communications, Marketing, or Journalism. If you do a job search online for PR, these are what majors most employers prefer. A course is a single class taken towards reaching your degree, while a degree is what you earn when you graduate.

As a Mass Comm major with a PR emphasis, you would complete courses like PR layout, design, and editing, Mass Media Ethics, Mass Media and society, Theories and principles of public relations, public relations writing, public relations cases & campaigns, Mass Comm law, etc.

If you want to guarantee the quality of a school’s mass comm program, you can see if it is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and you can find a list of these schools at http://www2.ku.edu/~acejmc/STUDENT/PROGLIST.SHTML

Don’t worry if the program at the school you want to attend is not accredited. It is not required, and many unaccredited programs are very good, too.

The most important aspect of getting a PR job is getting a good internship, no matter what your major is. Experience counts. Also, many schools have the Public Relations Student Society of America, and joining this club will give you valuable experience.

Islamic terrorists only understand and respect someone as violent and destructive as they are. The terrorists should continue to be hunted continuously, and destroyed at every opportunity. If they decide to hide in mosque, hospital, or school, civilian casualties are on their head. The use of UAVs, Special Ops personnel, and "smart bombs" should be increased. Anything else will be perceived as weakness and treated with contempt.

i need the military for college, hand to hand and weapons training, and when hiring criminal investigators military experience looks good. i hear the military is a good route to go for any kind of law enforcement. and i am aware you have to be a cop for a certain amount of time to get to criminal investigator, i want to use the military to get there i little quicker. does active duty help or hurt becoming a cop then criminal investigator? also what are psychology classes like in the military, are they different? i dont know why they would be but i heard from a few people that they were. please and thank you

The info you have heard is correct. You will not just become a criminal investigator in the military. Just like the civilian world, you have to work your way up. I have worked with many NCIS, CID, and other agents. It is a good field if that is your interest. The navy/marines have NCIS and the Army has CID. My advice is to join the Military Police branch. That way you get the feel of both police and investigating. You could always look into Intelligence field too. The military police handle things just a little different than the civilian but they are very much alike.
