What anthropological careers are related to international relations?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin in relations | 1 Comment »

Hi, I was thinking of doing a major in Anthropology and an International Relations minor…. What careers do you think will be available to me? I am hoping to be some kind of an advisor or analyst in these fields. Thank you!

Public Diplomacy and NGO/IO aide work. At my alma mater, there was an international affairs degree which had built in to it a large number of anthropology courses for these sorts of jobs. If you want work in that field, the IMF and World Bank hire good anthropologists for international development work. It’s working ‘for the man’ but I’m told it pays very well.

What is the relation between poverty and terrorism?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin in terrorism | 8 Comments »

How does poverty fuels terrorism?

Could we solve part of the current issues related to terrorism by reducing poverty?

How do you explain poverty being related to terrorism when Osama Bin Laden comes from a wealthy family?

Poverty has a large part to do with terrorism. Although there are some exceptions, like Bin Laden, for the most part terrorism is the best financial option. Prospects of terrorism are often lured into acts of terror not primarily because of fundamental beliefs, but by finances. I actually read an article about a member of Al-Qaeda member who was promised $500 for a C-section for his wife, but soon left the organization after receiving nothing. Something you won’t often hear about is how the US government obtained intelligence from terrorists captured in Afghanistan and Iraq. Cold hard cash. These guys had nothing better else to do than to fight, but when offered cash, they became turncoats in an instant. Nearly everyone’s loyalty can be bought at some price, it’s the price that differs from person to person. That is how they figured out where Saddam’s son was, one of his top men was bribed by cash from the US government.

As for explaining why Bin Laden would prefer to live in a cave rather than driving a Ferrari around Dubai, I can’t tell you. I guess he is someone that truly believes in his beliefs, and of course there will be exceptions to this theory. Maybe he is unhappy from his money. If you think about it, he is hypocritical for having such animosity towards everything western, when in fact his wealth was inherited by doing business with the west…

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a democracy vs a republic?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin in republic | 4 Comments »

I’ve heard that the U.S. constitution forms a republic whereas Thomas Jefferson had a democracy in mind. What is wrong with democracy? The ignorance of the masses? Isn’t a republic just an indirect democracy?
Wow. Looks like I hit a nerve with this question. It might be too volatile a subject to get a straight, unbiased answer. Which means there probably isn’t one.

A republic is democracy…its a form of democracy. The term republic means essentially a democracy that is led by one man…the president who we all know is elected to be the leader by the people to represent them..just like congress is elected by the people to represent them. Notice how the term represent keeps coming up? ever heard of the term representative democracy?

is the light bulb beginning to light up???

By the way, I am willing to bet cash money that the first answer is a Republican by the answer he gave. why? because his answer tries to deny that the USA is a democracy and that even democracies are actually a bad thing. I bet also that he supported Bush spreading democracy in the mideast via war…that was ok by him I am sure…even though democracy according to him is a bad thing. The reason he hates democracy and does not want us to know we are a democracy is because he is really a fascist and fascist believe that the few should control the many….

What is better autocratic or participatory administrative style in school leadership?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin in participatory | 2 Comments »

participatory! If s/he shows disrespect for fellow educators by ignoring their valuable experience and input, then that administrator will not have the respect of the staff…or for that matter of the student body.

How can i teach americans that capitalism is evil?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin in capitalism | 5 Comments »

This country needs a socialist system, because capitalism is evil, immoral and insane. It only benefits rich people. How can i help americans to turn into socialists, to love socialism, to love Che Guevara, Hugo Chavez and to hate capitalism? Because capitalism is horror without end.

.

I don’t think that you can rightfully teach that capitalism is evil. However, you can teach that a major driving force behind capitalism, greed, is evil. And that can be backed up by many verses in the bible of many religions.

I don’t believe that a full socialist system is necessary. I believe that a socialist/capitalist system would be the ultimate. Government owned businesses operating side by side with private businesses. That would remove a lot of the greed from private businesses because then they would have to compete with the government business that doesn’t have a multimillion dollar salary CEO.

What House of Representative has smallest area in the United States?

What House of Representative has smallest area in the United States?
I suspect it is a district in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles, where the population density is greatest. I think Wyoming would have the largest area represented by one member of the House.

The New York 15th Congressional District (10.29 square miles)

Charlie Rangel’s district.

How many civilians work for the military or agencies of the military?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin in military | 1 Comment »

For instance there is approximately 1.1 million US army soldiers. How many civilians are there that work for military agencies? What is the ration for civilians vs military (all military, not just army)?

I know a sargeant that repairs tanks and he mentioned how he wants to work for the government or the army as a civilian repairing tanks and get paid much more. Are there many jobs like that, that exist? Did I misunderstand what he said?

there is alot of agencies that work for the military, to be honest and this is my opinion but i just got out of the service. i would say the civilian side has more then the actual enlisted. for example u have VT griffin, lockheed martin, hell even the military police is going away and civilans are taking that over too, as well as gate guards.

How can someone purchase a life insurance policy for someone else without them knowing?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin in policy | 6 Comments »

I always see on Forensic Files and other shows about murderers, they are able to purchase a life insurance policy for their spouse or relative without the person’s knowledge. Then they kill the person for the money. Why are they able to buy a life insurance policy without the person knowing about it? Wouldn’t that prevent some murders if there were better procedures put in place?
The shows I am talking about are shows abotu real people and real murders. Forensic Files, Snapped, even dateline.

Not legally. The application would have had to have the insured’s signature. Otherwise, the signature is forged, or the insured was enticed to sign something without knowing what the instrument was.

For larger life insurance policies, there are medical exams, blood tests, EKG’s, etc., to qualify the insured for the coverage. No one can go through those tests without knowing the reason.

The insured could have bought a large policy, and made the spouse, or other perpetrator with an insurable interest the beneficiary.

If somebody wants another out of his/her life so bad that they would resort to muder, the insurance isn’t going to make that much of a difference. The crime will probably be attempted anyway.

It kind of sounds like you want to put blame on the insurance companies; just like people put the blame on guns. That would be the same as blaming Ford Motor Company if someone driving a Ford product purposely ran over and murdered his victim.

It’s not the insurance company’s fault. It’s not the gun’s fault. It’s not the vehicle’s fault, but the blame should go to the one who committed the despicable crime – the perpetrator.

Is it true that ancient celtic Pagans were a matriarchal society?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin in ancient | 6 Comments »

We’ve mostly lived in patriarchal societies where women are either "protected", dominated, or oppressed, but I have heard that before Jud-eo/Christian worship came about, that a lot of the ancient pagan religions actually revered women and respected them because they were the vessel of life. I heard this from someone, or read it. Is it true?

No they were not. There were some pagan cultures that were matriarchal, but not the Celts.
