What is different and similer between Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Greek religion?
Heya! I need some comparisons between Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Greek religion and mythology. Please help me!!
JeeVee, I do not expect you to do my homework. I have to look these up for an oral I shall be presenting, and I merely need something to talk about. Rest assured that I have plenty of work to do either way ![]()
After Alexander the Great took over Egypt the two religions started to mangle with each other. Temples of Egyptian gods were build in Greece and of Greek gods in Egypt. During that era (called the Hellenistic period) new gods were created. For example Serapis a healer god, had his great temple the Sarapion build in Alexandria. There Greeks, whose religion was more anthropocentric, influenced the Egyptians into seeing their gods as more loving and less demanding. During that period we also have a mixture in art. For example we see statues of gods with Egyptian-like bodies and clothes but Greek-style faces. For example figures of Isis-Aphrodite or Amon Rah – Alexander the Great.

Very similar. However the main difference is that Greek gods were anthropomorphic; they looked like normal people. Egyptian gods mostly had animal heads.
Herodotus states the most of the Greek gods came from Egypt, and were renamed by Hesiod and Homer.

Egyptian religion was much, much more complex than Greek religion. Egyptians had thousands of Gods!

Egypt has had a huge following from day one to now and current times. Many societies and cultures have stolen Egyptian mythos and renamed them to suit their purposes. Mostly because the Egyptian culture was the first major power in the Mediteranean and at one point handled all trade and knowledge of technologies.
Egypt had a huge lineage of gods that were directly related to one another from the birth of the sky to the destruction of the land.
So did Greek.
Egypt and Greece had pantheons of gods.
Egypt and Greece both believed in the idea that the king or pharoh was as close to a god as was needed. Some Kings/Pharohs even deified themselves.
Both Egypt and Greece were Naval military powers based on city regions.
Egypt and Greece both have a city named Thebes that gets confused by American schoolchildren everyday.
Egypt and Greece have the same stories of the Pheonix.
Egypt and Greece have the same basic stories of the Sphinxes.
Egypt and Greece have the same stories of Atlantis, although Greece’s story is popularized due to Plato who admits he took his info directly from Egypt.
Egypt and Greece had a huge funeral procession and tombs built for their leaders complete with an Underworld Realm….although Egypts was much more permanent and resolute.
Egypt was based more on River culture, Greece was on Sea culture.
Egyptian mythos is more closely related to Christian mythology.
While Egypt and Greece were both strongly influenced by their gods reacting as people might with petty jealousies and such, Greece’s gods were vindictive to the point of torture.
Egypt had a god for everything, Greece only had gods for the more common elements of life……that is until the Romans got involved and began giving gods domain over silly things like sewage and aquaducts. (Go Aquafina!)
Feel free to make your own comparisons about Isis and Hera, or Isis and Aphrodite, or Isis and Demeter, or Isis and even the Mother Mary.

No difference between the ancient believes that have been made by humans.
The oldest people who believed in God the first were the Persians.(the oldest religion that belief in REAL GOD).
They were Zoroastrians………….
Those times Egyptians,Greeks etc believed in everything but the Real God, the only nation that believed in God in those times were the Zoroastrians…
