How can fundies doubt evolution but fully embrace capitalism?

Posted on December 25th, 2009 by admin in capitalism | 15 Comments »

The term evolution can be applied to more than the gradual effects of "survival of the fittest".
There is socio-cultural evolution for instance.

Capitalism is the evolution counterpart of economics.
The best businesses grow and thrive and the weak businesses fail.
Laissez-faire capitalism even eschews the concept of any outside forces influencing the outcome of capitalism (as in, NO INTELLIGENT DESIGN)

it’s the same principal as evolution, it just applies to the economy instead of the formation of species

Because god wants them to be comfortable and prosperous. Jesus said so. Really. That stuff about giving away possessions and rich people having a hard time getting into heaven — misunderstandings.

    Honest.

Embracing creationism is easy. Embracing austerity is hard.

Maybe it’s all about balance. Their rejection of evolution balances their acceptance of capitalism.

capitalism = social darwinism? Well, I guess b/c Genesis doesn’t mention the free market. Oddly enough, the people they vote in (Bush, and to be fair, Obama) don’t seem to give a rats ass about free market ideology. A business is ‘too big to fail’. Poppy cock. Just give the money to the poor. Seriously. This business would put a bunch of people out of work and this would put more people out of work? Try letting it happen and building a better system on the ashes. Obama by the way, should have embraced socialism (assuming this is the ideology of the left) and given the companies to the poor. Either way, they both fucked the little guy. American government: the best government money can buy. That said, I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

They don’t really support a truly free market. Can you imagine the outcry if their churches were taxed exactly the same as any other business?

Sorry but your comparison to evolution is not relevant. There has to be some intelligence behind capitalism. Things don’t evolve from nothing to something. A business has to be created. It doesn’t just come out of some brown ozzie mess on the side of a creek.

If it does why doesn’t a business pop out of the wheat field across the street from my house. I could place a brick in to get it started.

The christian motto: If it makes us uncomfortable just don’t answer the question!"

Do you guys know that when you tap-dance around an intelligent question such as this, or respond in religious rhetoric, or claim there’s something fundamentally wrong with the question to begin with, you make yourselves look stupid?

If it eases you to do so, why not just say that "god" set evolution in motion? It makes alot more sense than claiming the earth is 10,000 years old and that "the devil" planted fossils! I agree with the asker:
There are many similarities between Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and Laissez-faire capitalism.

Capitalism actually predates the theory of darwinian evolution (Adam Smith). Many social darwinists tried to justify their social theories with evolutionary biology, but they are totally unrelated.

  15. Questioner Says:

Creationists believe in natural selection and even "speciation" (we just don’t believe in chemical evolution and common descent). Take a look at these:
    http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/nab/is-natural-selection-evolution
    http://www.answersingenesis.org/get-answers/topic/speciation

Capitalism takes intelligent design to start and to continue. Those businesses take minds to start and grow (competing intelligence). They must be created and maintained. It’s not the mindless, undirected chance and necessity of neo-Darwinian evolution (natural selection acting on random chance mutations).
