@fftb
I do come from a mslim country, and I know only too well how bckwrds their culture is.I say “their’ because I rejected their abominable way of living and chose to live in a Western country. Lefties like you think that the only way to be informed is through “media”. Very much like my lefty uni profs.If you think wstern culture is so “cheapstake”, why do you even use the internet?Why use technology?The word is derived from “teknos” ancient greek for “a way to know things”.lefty hypocrite.

General Pinochet …
General Pinochet had no intent to establish a free-market system when he overthrew the government. The truth is that -like all authoritarian regimes- Chile was in economic shambles after the coup. It was only after a Harvard educated economist, Jose Pinera, rose thought the ranks that Chile began its economic reform. Conspiracy theories only appeal to people who dont know the facts. Klein is trying to shock people into buying her book by misconstruing cause and effect and plain ignorance.

he may not have …
he may not have openly advocated social crises but he was deeply involved with the US officials and thinktanks who gave the green light for and facilitated the coup in Chile.
He and his minions, with their plans to reconstitute Chile as an extremist ‘free market’ state, were as much a part of the coup as the C.I.A.

What a lightweight, …
What a lightweight, my goodness. Friedman was right. True changes in society only occur when a crisis (social/economic etc.) occurs. The US wouldn’t have existed but for one. There are always too many people who have a vested interest in the status quo, especially when a system is oppressive (as we have now -to an extent- in the welfare state). Doesn’t mean he advocated social crises, he was just realistic. Klein: a product of mediocrity, an inflated ego, and a lack of deductive reasoning skills

You are so …
You are so misinformed. You can’t comment on the Islamic system from the cheapskate Western system. See,the media play on the stupidity of people like you. They apply Western values to Islamic vlaues to provoke you to question and hate Muslims. The media will never tell you that although muslim men can have 4 wives, they have to be treated the same in a contexts and respects. Why dont you think before you open the hole in your face.. you troglodite.

@erdomoz1: Intresting that you note my ‘childish ways’ when your argument is pretty much based on a tit for tat logic. Furthermore I was never arguing with you but proclaiming your views are anathema to me asshole:)

@kawarmachi
yes, idoit (misspelling on purpose) I understand your narrow lefty views. You’re either a “progressive” lefty or you’re a monster, right? I see your childish political views. Who’s the staunchest supporter of muslims, who think it’s their allah given right to have multiple wives and supress them in the most abominable way?? ?Guess what lefties! And just because lefties are morons doesn’t mean that conservatives are so much better. Quit your childish ways, mature up.

I now what you mean …
I now what you mean.. I hate lefties. We should just be allowed to eat babies and have sixteen wives and be left alone to pursue our vulture funds. We should hang out. It will be fun but Ill probably conduct a vivisection on you coz Im a conservative scientist who finds testing on animals useless. I need human test subjects like erdemoz1.

To become wealthy …
To become wealthy take a very high degree of risk, be it money-wise or a huge sacrifice in a sort of way. Why would you want to live in a world were hard work is not rewarded. Not every rich person inherits their wealth most are 1st gen. Be the master of your own destiny and do something with your life instead of looking at others end result. Wealth and leadership is not for everybody.

I am glad that …
I am glad that Obama has kept up the status quo here, for we are still under the tyrannical laws enacted by the neocons and furthered by liberal democrats. Truly nothing has changed, the new leader is the same as the old. Still using the same illegal tactics, same counter productive policies: and only shows the results of the our failed two party system.

What does …
What does government intervention (wars, laws, treaties whatever) has to do with free market? It’s like saying that white is black. Free market is all about volountary human action. Government is all about coercion and force. What this lady is criticizing is no free market but govenment coercion. How can anyone be so right in his/her critique and so wrong about solutions? Collectivism is and always will be humanity greatest enemy.

We need to get over …
We need to get over this Left vs Right, name calling crap, this bickering is exactly where the power players want us. They are running scared, we the public are waking up, the Fed, Goldman the bankers’ scams, the rigging and bailouts, the fiat money game, 9/11, the wars, the lies. United we can fight the bastards, let them know that we know, that we are not taking their bullshit anymore, we will be holding their feet to the fire, together we can stop them and put them out of business.

The problem with …
The problem with this economy is not Obama. Its the the fractional resreve banking system.This Nation has been enslaved by the world bank run by jews the private federal reserve central bank in W D C who Has the right to print our money then tells the government if they need money they have to take a loan and pay back with interest the government then puts the burden on the tax payer then the tax payer cant pay. No one can buy consumership fails and we go bust. From Giovanni orion Di Ofelia

March 9th, 2010 at 1:25 am
the state …
the state electricity company is threatened to be sold to another of the richest men in Honduras who has a gasoline monopoly in my country, owner of several thermoelectric plants(6 of them for sake!),energy plants, owner of Petroleo de Honduras (huge oil company), and so many energy related things I can’t even list them all.. This cannot mean progress for my country in view we are owned by few hands and this government will finish giving everything away to them. This is NOT propaganda.
March 9th, 2010 at 1:25 am
by the richest man …
by the richest man in my country, who does NOT own these lands and he claims they are a guarantee for the IMF, the state owned electricity company is threatened to be privatized now, an Italian mining company is threatening communities of campesinos and trespassing their lands and polluting the water streams, destroying crops with their trucks,, all of this happening in the months after the coup. There is a huge list of forced changes into the country no one would agree with.
March 9th, 2010 at 1:25 am
I am a witness that …
I am a witness that the Shock Doctrine is a fact, especially in the last 7 months after the coup in my country, Honduras.
All of a sudden, the Congress “ratified” a so called “Nation Plan” for the next 30 years. The worst thing is that NO ONE knows about what this plan is about, it was not consulted to anyone and no one knows one single point of it. Micheletti privatized a Honduran tax paid newly built dam to an Italian enterprise, a vast region of campesinos is being expropiated, continues–

She has mastered …
She has mastered the same style of propaganda used by Michael Moore. Notice all of the irrelevant red herrings. What exactly does shocking people with electricity have to do with Milton Friedman advocating for freedom? Absolutely nothing. What she leaves out is that all of the violence that she describes was caused by the ideas she advocates. That is why socialism and communism has failed.
March 9th, 2010 at 1:25 am
The “free” market …
The “free” market does not know the real value of things. For instance, hamburgers made with beef, that is produced by breeding cattle through deforestation wouldn’t be worth $2, but in reality $200. The profitcentric politics of some shouldn’t take the freedom away from others, less destroy nature., which shows the philosophy of self interest’s real flaws. In the USSR were forced into a system, people in the West are persuaded through marketing into a system- a system built through lies.

@SparklyRafa im …
@SparklyRafa im sure u can prove that, cant you? or it is just another dogma i must believe?
in the ussr they restricted progression on an ideological basis.
anyway, look at the food you eat, the product of the efficiency you speak about: cheap to produce, lasts long, unfit for human nutrition. great.
