The misleading story often told is that “Jews declared Israel and then they were attacked.” The fact is from November 1947 to May 1948 the Zionists were already on the offensive and had already attacked Arabs. In the months before Israel was declared, the Zionists had driven 300,000 non-Jews off their land. In the months before Israel was declared, the Zionists had seized land beyond the proposed Jewish State.”

Commenting on the founding of Israel, Senior Lecturer of Military History in the IDF Aryeh Yitzhaki says, “a generation has passed, and it is now possible to face the ocean of lies in which we were brought up. In almost every conquered village in the War of Independence, acts were committed, which are defined as war crimes, such as indiscriminate killings, massacres and rapes.” Yitzhaki is cited in the Israeli paper, Ha’ir, by Guy Erlich in his May 6, 1992 article, “Not Only Deir Yassin.” Deir Yassin was an Arab village whose inhabitants were massacred by Zionist militia in 1948.

Conversations With History: American Foreign Policy
Host Harry Kreisler welcomes Derek Chollet and James Goldgeier for a discussion of U.S. foreign policy from the Fall of the Berlin Wall until the attack on 9/11. They discuss the search for a grand strategy during the Clinton administration and outline the debates among liberals and among conservatives about the U.S. role as the sole superpower, especially the relative importance of economic power versus military power in shaping world order. Chollet and Goldgeier also focus on the new security challenges facing the United States– global warming, terrorism, and the spread of infectious disease. Montreal-based activist and author Yves Engler launches his book The Black Book of Canadian Foriegn Policy in Edmonton on June 18, 2009. The Black Book of Canadian Foreign Policy sheds light on many dark corners of Canadian foreign policy: From troops that joined the British in Sudan in 1885 to gunboat diplomacy in the Caribbean and aspirations of Central American empire, to participation in the UN mission that killed Patrice Lumumba in the Congo, to important support for apartheid South Africa, Zionism and the US war in Vietnam, to helping overthrow Salvador Allende and supporting the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile, to Haiti, Iraq and Afghanistan today. Engler’s work has been praised by Noam Chomsky.
